INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Combining access to industry-leading technical skill development and world-
class, career-related professionalism training. Over the past three years, the
programming has welcomed students from 70+ high school and collegiate
institutions.

  • With over 130 students for our summer program, students are placed
    across the county at National Gaylor Electric locations and job sites.
  • Sprinkled throughout the summer, students have access to resume
    development, interview prep, business best practices discussions, and
    professional headshots. This experience culminates with academic
    capstone presentations for our collegiate students and craft skills
    assessments for our high school students.

COLLEGIATE
INTERNSHIP

Gaylor Electric’s collegiate internship programming combines an opportunity for career exploration, the honing of technical skills, and robust professionalism training during a ten week, paid summer program. We offer positions in the field, project management, engineering, accounting, human resources, education, computer science, marketing, safety, and risk.

Students will not only develop skills in positions related to their collegiate academic field of study, but do intense curation of their professional resumes, interview habits, networking skills, and professionalism approaches.

COLLEGIATE FAQs

How long is the collegiate internship program?

It is 10 weeks long; late May through late July. This is subject to shift regionally based upon local academic calendars.

What will I do during the internship?

This will depend upon your academic area of study, your interests, and what department you serve within. We offer internships in the field, project engineer/project management, engineering, virtual design, business development,  accounting, human resources, education, computer science, marketing, safety, and risk. Your role and scope of work will be discussed in your interview process.

Do I need to have construction experience to apply?

No! It takes many departments to keep a nationwide company like ours running, we absolutely welcome interns that are new to the construction industry!

Is this a paid internship?

Yes, it is. You are paid hourly, 40 hours a week. Holidays are unpaid.

What are the typical hours?

Typical hours are 8am-5pm for office-based positions, 7am-3:30pm with a lunch mid-shift for field-based or pre-fabrication positions.

Can this lead to a full-time position at Gaylor Electric in the future?

Absolutely! We hire many of our interns upon graduation to be full-time employees in our offices all around the nation!

Can an internship lead to a co-op placement with Gaylor Electric?

Yes! We do have co-op opportunities and give preference to former interns for these positions.

HIGH SCHOOL FAQs

How long is the high school internship program?

It is 8 weeks long; early June through late July. This is subject to shift regionally based upon local school calendars.

What will I do during the internship?

You will serve as an entry-level electrician either on a traditional construction site or in one of our Production & Innovation Centers. Your summer kicks off with a week of orientation and training at your local Gaylor Electric office, then you are assigned to a site as close to your home as possible, generally within 30 miles of your address.

Do I need to have construction experience to apply?

No. It is helpful, but not required. We’ll teach you all that you need to know!

Is this a paid internship?

Yes, it is. You are paid hourly, 40 hours a week. Holidays are unpaid.

What are the typical hours?

Typical hours are 7am-3:30pm with a lunch mid-shift.

Can this lead to a full-time position at Gaylor Electric in the future?

HIGH SCHOOL
INTERNSHIP

Gaylor Electric’s high school internship programming combines construction career exploration with learning entry-level electrical skills which pave the way for future electrical apprenticeship. Students are placed either on a traditional construction site or in our Production and Innovation Center for an eight week summer program running early June through late July.

Students are not only paid, but given advice regarding resumes, interviews, professionalism, and career development. They become a valued member of the Gaylor Electric culture, and learn what it means to hold a high-value, high-opportunity position in the trades.
