Project Description

Gaylor prefabricated each of the 517 suite-style student bedrooms for the new 125,000 square foot four-story residence hall on the campus of North Carolina Central University.  Due to space restrictions, trades were to allowed to store no more than two weeks of material at a time.  In order to keep on schedule, electricians designed and built key components in-house, labeling, packaging by unit and storing the completed segments for delivery as needed.

Prefabrication was also used to comply with LEED certification requirements as defined by the owner.  By constructing electrical elements in a controlled setting, Gaylor was able to minimize waste and recycle.

Replacing the original 60-year old housing structure, the Chidley North Residence Hall features the latest technology available to college multi-use dormitories in lighting, communications and fire suppression.  The building also includes offices, apartments for staff, a multi-purpose classroom featuring electronic smart boards and a computer lab.
