Project Description

Central Prison is a 365,775 square foot maximum-security facility and medical center.  It is built with masonry block and massive concrete panels pre-formed at a precast plant. Gaylor’s contract included all electrical work, fire alarm, security, nurse call and communications for two buildings.

Prior to installation of the 15-foot wide x 27-foot tall wall panels, Gaylor reviewed CAD files provided by the precast plant to determine where to locate conduit. The imbeds, such as junction boxes, were designed and prefabricated in-house then sent to the precast facility where the electrical components were baked into the walls. This pre-work helped electricians run conduit and wiring more efficiently once walls are delivered and set in place.

Gaylor installed 5,000 fixtures in two structures including 2x2 and 2x4 fluorescent layins, can lights and exterior and site lighting.  Due to the secure nature of the prison, lighting had to be vandal and suicide proof.  Exterior lighting floods the campus with foot-candle illumination that enhances visibility at night so security cameras can capture activity.
