What does a General Superintendent do?
General Superintendents are directly responsible for supervising and overseeing multiple projects consisting of field supervisors, lead persons, crew leaders, journeypersons, apprentices, and/or helpers. They are accountable for the on-site supervision of assigned construction projects, trade contractors, and field personnel, in such a way as to ensure scheduled completion of projects within established budget, time frame, quality and performance standards, and customer/client satisfaction. In addition, they are responsible for reviewing project documents, plans and specifications, directing construction activities, resolving construction difficulties, coordinating field installations, project close-outs, and developing and/or maintaining customer/client relationships.
What skills are required of a General Superintendent?
General Superintendents have Journeymen’s license and a thorough understanding of all NEC, state and local codes. General Superintendents also have the skills necessary to lead, motivate, coach, and develop assigned employees. In addition, General Superintendents must have the ability to plan, schedule, and organize tasks in order to meet deadlines.
